Gnocchi with bacon and egg

I subscribe to two cooking magazines, Good Food and Olive, and every month I fold down the pages of recipes I like the look of and then happily put the magazines on my bookshelf and forget all about them. When I look through them again, there are always recipes I’ve marked which are a bit different to my normal tastes, and I’m fairly certain I will never make them. This is one of those recipes, and this week I decided I was just going to go for it. If I didn’t like it, I could just not make it again. But I did like it. A lot. (more…)

The steak sandwich recipe wasn’t meant to be a sandwich. I was flicking through Mexican Food Made Simple and I came across a recipe called “Rib-eye steak with chilli mushrooms”. On the facing page is a picture of the yummiest looking sammich you have ever seen. So I started reading through the recipe and I realised the picture and the recipe didn’t match. At all. But the idea had been planted in my brain, so steak and chilli mushroom sandwich was what we made 🙂 (more…)

I always mean to plan the following week’s meals at the weekend and buy all the ingredients so that tea in the week involves the minimum possible amount of stress. What usually happens though, is this:

Oh, Nigella, is there anything you can’t do? Probably. Probably many things, in fact. Like flying, and opening one of those yoghurts with the foil lids without forgetting to point it away from you so you don’t get yoghurt all over yourself.
