Creamy prawn pasta

I cannot believe that, given how much pasta I eat, the last time I posted a pasta recipe was in October. That is madness! Utter madness. It is my favourite food and if I could only eat pasta forever I’d… well, I’d cry, because pasta isn’t cake, but it’d definitely be near the top of my “foods I wouldn’t mind eating forever whilst not being allowed to eat anything else, once I’d got used to not being allowed cake” list. Yes, the titles of my lists are always that snappy. Yes, I make many lists. Be quiet now. This is on my most favouritest pastas list

Prawn avocado salad

I bet you didn’t think you’d ever see a salad recipe on here, did you? Honestly, neither did I. It looks kind of out of place amongst all the cakes and bread, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, those cakes and bread are responsible for the increasing size of my bum and action needed to be taken. So, I give you salad. It’s nice though, I promise! I would never make you a horrible salad. Let’s do healthy!

Sausage rolls made with homemade puff pastry

I’ve heard lots of things about puff pastry. “It’s difficult”, they say. “It’s time consuming”, they say. “It promises you everything and leaves you with NOTHING”, they say. Possibly. Maybe that’s shortcrust pastry. I’m not a pastry expert. Which probably makes you wonder why I’ve decided to do a step-by-step to puff pastry. But anyway, puff pastry is nowhere near as difficult as I’d convinced myself it would be! Stop! Pastry time!

Sometimes The Book People come to my office. When this happens, I accidentally part with money in return for more cookbooks and then I sneak them home and put them on the bookshelf so that I can claim I’ve had them for ages when Chris asks where they’ve come from. Shh. Don’t tell. What has this got to do with soup? Well, not loads. But I got this wonderful soup book last time The Book People came (don’t you think The Book People sounds kind of sinister? Like The Pod People. They’ve come to take over your… cookbooks! I guess it doesn’t sound that sinister. I do love my cookbooks though. What if they took over my Nigella books?! I am experiencing high levels of confusion right now). Come inside if you want (your cookbooks) to live!

Last week, my mum and I went out for tea to Strada. I was getting a little worried looking at the menu because I wasn’t in the mood for much of what was on offer (apart from the desserts, hehe). In the end, we both ended up choosing tomato and roasted vegetable rigatoni topped with ricotta and it turned out to be absolutely delicious. We agreed that it needed recreating at home and so I decided to have a go. It turned out ace. Eat your vegetables!

Thai massaman curry

Thai food is another one of those things I missed out on for the first 16 years of my life. In fact, I don’t think I was brave enough to try it until I was at uni. Now it’s one of my favourites and I can’t believe I haven’t got any Thai recipes on the blog yet, so here’s one of my favourite Thai curries to rectify the situation! (more…)

I did not realise, when I decided to make this, how much of an arse-ache it would be to get pasta shells. I naively went to my usual supermarket and happily (that bit might be a lie, grocery shopping makes me angry) trotted (also a lie, I never trot) up and down the aisles picking up my shopping, when I got to the pasta aisle. I looked at the big pasta shapes they had. Not there. “Hmm,” I thought, “I must not be looking properly” (this happens a lot). I looked at the small pasta shells. Nope, not there either. In fact, after 10 minutes of searching (and panicking) it transpired that they did not stock large pasta shells. They had what can only be described as slightly-larger-than-small-but-not-even-medium-sized pasta shells. (more…)

Risotto all’arrabiata

This recipe has been waiting and waiting and WAITING for me to finish my exams so that it could finally be posted. And now that it’s finally here, you need to make this. When I first tasted it, I actually paused in shock at how good it is. Really. I don’t do that. I eat my food as quickly as possible before something awful can happen that might stop me from finishing my food, like the world ending or me dropping my plate because I’m clumsy. Remember that time the world ended and you didn’t get to eat half of that amazing risotto? Exactly. (more…)

After turning Philly cheese steak into pasta last week, I’ve been thinking about what else would be fun to turn into pasta. I decided on beef enchiladas. (more…)
