So, Easter kinda came and went, huh? Yeah it did. So here’s what we’re going to do: we’re going to pretend that this cake is decorated with eggs and stuff because I’m MENTAL and I will decorate baked goods with anything I like, whether it’s a holiday or not. We probably don’t need to pretend actually, I really would do that. (more…)

Just over a week ago, two things happened on the same day. Firstly, I made this cheesecake. Secondly, Chris broke up with me. I’m fairly certain the two are unrelated, just in case you’re worried that this is a cursed cheesecake. (more…)

I have a confession. You know those pretty macaroons I made the other day? I sort of maybe didn’t tell you the whole story. Confession time
Chocolate and Tia Maria parfait

I hadn’t planned to make this and it isn’t often that I spontaneously bake. Usually because I don’t have time in between all the planned baking! But after making macaroons I found myself with some spare egg yolks and it seemed a shame to throw them away. I knew I’d seen several recipes in my new Green and Black’s cookbook that only used egg yolks, and, as they all contain chocolate, I knew I’d want to make pretty much all of them! It was difficult deciding which to make (dark chocolate and cardamom ice cream? buttermilk and bitter chocolate ice cream? gooey chocolate puddings?) but I’ve never made parfait before so I decided to try something new. It was a good decision! Give me parfait!
Happy birthday to Chris! Part two: Chocolate sticky toffee pudding

You didn’t think he only got a main course, did you? Every birthday meal needs a dessert! Chris is rather fond of this sticky toffee cake and that is what I was originally going to make for this birthday. But then I ordered a copy of Green and Black’s Ultimate Chocolate Recipes and came across this recipe. Sticky toffee pudding AND chocolate? Yes please. So I suggested it to Chris (because I was just thinking about what Chris would like for his birthday, obviously. Not because I really, really wanted chocolate sticky toffee pudding. No no no. Not at all.) and he agreed that it sounded like something he’d want to put in his face. So I made this and we put it in our faces and I was so happy I could have exploded. Get in my face, toffee!

If you were to count my chocolate cookbooks (why do I always seem to be counting my cookbooks?), you would find that I have ten of them. Ten cookbooks devoted to chocolate. That is how much I love chocolate. And I have five more on my Amazon wishlist. Why? What is wrong with me? I shall tell you: Nothing, you fool. Why wouldn’t I want ten chocolate cookbooks? Chocolate is amazing. And after making this recipe from Willie’s Chocolate Bible, I shall be buying the book to add to my collection. Come in if you love chocolate!

The last of the weekend’s Mexican recipes is this ace cheesecake. If this cheesecake were a person, it would be Ryan Gosling. Beautiful, yummy and lovely to eat caramel sauce off of. Oh, Ryan Gosling. So perfect. So swoonworthy. How are you not mine? *sigh*

Yep. Chocolate. Banoffee. Pie. Look at it. Don’t you just want to stick your face in it? Well, you shouldn’t. You’d have cream all over your face! It would be much more sensible to eat it with a spoon. (more…)
The best chocolate mousse, or what I remember from high school french
Posted in Baking, Chocolate, Dessert, Mousse, tagged chocolate, chocolate mousse on July 9, 2011| 2 Comments »
My mum is brilliant at languages; she speaks pretty good French and German. My dad was fluent in Italian. My sisters have also managed to pick up the languages they were taught at school to an impressive standard. But the language gene seems to have skipped me, because the only things I remember from language lessons at school are the german for “round the corner” (“um die Ecke”!) and the recipe for this chocolate mousse.
