Where I used to work, when someone decided to leave for a new job/career break/miscellaneous life change, my lovely friend Emma would make themed cupcakes for their last day. (Incidentally, Emma has started a cupcake blog which you can find here. Have a look!). When I found out a friend, Anna, from where I am now working is leaving for a new job, I remembered the tradition that Emma had introduced and decided to make some cupcakes using Anna’s favourite chocolate bar. It also gave me an excuse to do some more chocolate bar themed baking, after the Mars bar successes! Go get your Galaxy from under the bed, or wherever else you hide it like that bird in the advert

So, Easter kinda came and went, huh? Yeah it did. So here’s what we’re going to do: we’re going to pretend that this cake is decorated with eggs and stuff because I’m MENTAL and I will decorate baked goods with anything I like, whether it’s a holiday or not. We probably don’t need to pretend actually, I really would do that. (more…)

At the beginning of February, I went to London to visit my lovely friend, Jessica. Jess and I have known each other since we were teeny tiny children at nursery. I won’t lie, there’s been some rocky patches in our friendship; Jessica once savagely kicked me under the table in class when we were 9. Fortunately, I decided to forgive her (once I’d kicked her back) and we have been friends ever since, even if we have only managed one visit every five years due to lots of moving around 🙂 (more…)
Cappuccino squares by Kim

So, I’ve cheated a bit here, because I didn’t make this cake. My clever sister, Kim, made it. I used to make this cake. I did. A lot. It was actually one of the first cakes I made. But then, one day, Kim made it. Kim does not pay attention to proper measurements. Kim does not follow directions properly. Kim doesn’t even use the right shaped tin. But it turns out the cake is far better Kim’s way. So if we want cappuccino squares, Kim makes them, because only she really knows how. Come in to find out how

Just over a week ago, two things happened on the same day. Firstly, I made this cheesecake. Secondly, Chris broke up with me. I’m fairly certain the two are unrelated, just in case you’re worried that this is a cursed cheesecake. (more…)

Christmas! Christmas Christmas Christmas! Did you have a good one? Did you get lovely presents? More importantly, have you eaten bloody loads? We had a slow build up to Christmas (a few biscuits, chocolates and a gingercake), then BOOM, Christmas Eve, time to eat your face off. Non-stop. For the next week. So we’re mid-eating season at the moment and I’ve managed to stuff in loads. Christmas Eve we had a huge meatball lasagne (recipe coming soon) followed by some deep dish chocolate chip cookie puddings (recipe coming when I manage to take a photo before scoffing it. This hasn’t happened yet.). Christmas Day involved the usual massive fry-up mid-morning, followed by constant chocolate eating until the big roast dinner. And now it’s Boxing Day! Click here if you ate loads too
Nutella banana loaf cake

A few weeks ago, I bought a gigantic jar of Nutella. Because I might want to bake with it, or spread it on bananas, or eat it straight from the jar with a spoon. But then I forgot about it, until Chris told me I needed to bake with Nutella because we had three jars. Where did these other two jars come from? How had I not eaten all of it in front of the tv yet? Who bought all this Nutella? Well, me. Let’s buy more!
