I cannot believe it’s been nearly two weeks since I last posted. Did you miss me? Did you cry a bit? Did you even notice? You didn’t, did you? Hmph. I’ll just console myself with this ice cream and NOT GIVE YOU THE RECIPE. Just kidding. Please come in!

Gingerbread chocolate fudge

So. The Christmas adverts have started. There are Christmas lights in (some) city streets. Christmas cakes are being baked, Christmas lists are being made, some people even have their shopping sorted already! (Not me, I leave it ’til the last minute every. Single. Year.) .
But some people aren’t impressed with these developments. I mean, it’s not even December yet! And the adverts aren’t in the spirit of Christmas, they’re just there to make you panic and spend money. And are those Christmas street lights really necessary? YES. YES THEY ARE. You big humbug. Let’s make Christmas fudge!

I have a confession. You know those pretty macaroons I made the other day? I sort of maybe didn’t tell you the whole story. Confession time
Chocolate and Tia Maria parfait

I hadn’t planned to make this and it isn’t often that I spontaneously bake. Usually because I don’t have time in between all the planned baking! But after making macaroons I found myself with some spare egg yolks and it seemed a shame to throw them away. I knew I’d seen several recipes in my new Green and Black’s cookbook that only used egg yolks, and, as they all contain chocolate, I knew I’d want to make pretty much all of them! It was difficult deciding which to make (dark chocolate and cardamom ice cream? buttermilk and bitter chocolate ice cream? gooey chocolate puddings?) but I’ve never made parfait before so I decided to try something new. It was a good decision! Give me parfait!
Happy birthday to Chris! Part two: Chocolate sticky toffee pudding

You didn’t think he only got a main course, did you? Every birthday meal needs a dessert! Chris is rather fond of this sticky toffee cake and that is what I was originally going to make for this birthday. But then I ordered a copy of Green and Black’s Ultimate Chocolate Recipes and came across this recipe. Sticky toffee pudding AND chocolate? Yes please. So I suggested it to Chris (because I was just thinking about what Chris would like for his birthday, obviously. Not because I really, really wanted chocolate sticky toffee pudding. No no no. Not at all.) and he agreed that it sounded like something he’d want to put in his face. So I made this and we put it in our faces and I was so happy I could have exploded. Get in my face, toffee!

Happy Halloween! Did you go to a halloween party? Did you dress up? Did you make halloween-themed baked goods? Did you, did you, did you? Where was it? What did you wear? What did you make? Hmmmmm? I did not go to a party or dress up, but I did make these pretty orange and black cupcakes 🙂 Enter if you dare… it’s only cupcakes, silly

If you were to count my chocolate cookbooks (why do I always seem to be counting my cookbooks?), you would find that I have ten of them. Ten cookbooks devoted to chocolate. That is how much I love chocolate. And I have five more on my Amazon wishlist. Why? What is wrong with me? I shall tell you: Nothing, you fool. Why wouldn’t I want ten chocolate cookbooks? Chocolate is amazing. And after making this recipe from Willie’s Chocolate Bible, I shall be buying the book to add to my collection. Come in if you love chocolate!
Caramel brownies

I have spent the past few days feeling very sorry for myself. I have picked up some sort of mutant flu (or a bad cold) and my head hurts too much to do anything. Fortunately, before I was struck down with this horrible flu (or bad cold), I made these amazing caramel brownies and so I have been consoling myself by stuffing my face with them. (more…)
Malteser cake

Last time I counted my cookbooks, I had around sixty five on my bookshelf. I decided this was plenty and that I would try not to buy any for a while. At the weekend I went shopping and I saw this (which I’m fairly certain is this book, having compared the indexes). Obviously I had to have it, and I’d been so good, I deserved it. My first cookbook for ages! Or so I thought. When I got home, I decided to count my cookbooks again (don’t envy my exciting life). Eighty five. I have eighty five cookbooks. Somehow, in my break from buying cookbooks, I have acquired twenty extra cookbooks. I do not know how this has happened. I couldn’t tell you which twenty are new. Oops. (more…)
