Are you a fan of fudgy brownies or cakey brownies? Honestly, I don’t even class cakey brownies as brownies. They are cakes. Small square cakes. But these, these are brownies. Lovely, fudgy toffee brownies. (more…)

This was thoroughly rejected. So I decided to turn it into swiss roll instead. (more…)

When I started this blog, I decided I’d join the Daring Bakers. I love trying new recipes, but it’s not very often that I make something which is a big challenge, partly because I don’t have the patience and partly because I’m worried it’ll go wrong. Blog-checking lines: The August 2011 Daring Bakers’ Challenge was hosted by Lisa of Parsley, Sage, Desserts and Line Drive and Mandy of What the Fruitcake?!. Julia
P.S. Please can you hide from Chris when he approaches the sweets cupboard, otherwise he eats all of you and I am sad. Hide behind the Pringles, I don’t like those. (more…)

My mum is brilliant at languages; she speaks pretty good French and German. My dad was fluent in Italian. My sisters have also managed to pick up the languages they were taught at school to an impressive standard. But the language gene seems to have skipped me, because the only things I remember from language lessons at school are the german for “round the corner” (“um die Ecke”!) and the recipe for this chocolate mousse.
