I am very late to the Oreo party. I don’t know if they’re just not as big a deal in the UK as they are in America, or if I was just sheltered from them due to my mum’s dislike of them (although she loved this fudge as well as these cupcakes so I’m starting to think she knows NOTHING about Oreos). Whatever the reason for me only discovering them about a year ago, it means I am way behind with experimenting with them in recipes.
I saw this recipe (check out the rest of the blog too, there’s some ace stuff on there!) a few weeks ago and I knew I’d make it soon. There are a lot of recipes I get very excited about and then forget about almost immediately (short attention span) but I have been thinking about this recipe ever since I found it, and last week I finally got round to making it!
Part of the reason this appealed to me so much is that I am a huge, huge fan of cheat’s fudge. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever make proper, traditional fudge ever again (though there’s a good one here if you fancy it!). This takes no time at all to melt together and then a few hours later (or overnight, if you can wait) it’s ready for eating. Nom nom nom. No messing around with thermometers and burning your face when you stick it in the hot sugar mixture. What? You’ve never done that? Oh. Yeah. Me neither… Let’s make some easy fudge!
Cookies and cream fudge
Adapted from Fake Ginger
Makes 64ish squares, depending how you cut it
Ingredients:
575g/20.3 oz white chocolate, broken into chunks
397g/14 oz tin of condensed milk
10 oreos, broken into eighths
Line a 9×9 inch square tin with baking paper.
Put the white chocolate and condensed milk in a large pan and heat very gently over a low heat, stirring frequently, until the chocolate has melted. The mixture should be smooth and stick to itself. Stir in the oreos.
Scrape the mixture into the tin and level it, pushing it into all the corners. The mixture it quite stiff and will not spread on its own. Put the tin in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight, for the fudge to set. Cut into squares (I did 8 by 8).
This is gorgeous looking fudge!
Thanks! It tastes pretty good too 😀
Ooh I love the look of your fudge! The cookies through it look great 🙂
Thank you!
can i substitute it with dark chocolate?
Yes, but reduce the amount of chocolate to 450g 🙂
I am ALL over these fudge! They look sooo pretty and delicious. Yum!
Thank you! It’s very delicious and far too easy to make. I predict I shall be stuffing my face with it all Christmas.
I love the idea of cheat’s fudge – so much easier than faffing around with thermometers! And the cookies look gorgeous, yum.
Cheat’s fudge is the best. It’s nice to feel clever using a sugar thermometer sometimes, but cheat’s fudge suits a lazy mood 🙂
LOVE this. I too am a huge fan of “cheater fudge”–no matter what people say, I am terrified of candy thermometers and know that I will probably blow up my kitchen if I try to conquer that fear.
Also I’m obsessed with all things cookies and cream. This is like an early gift! 🙂
Yes! Cookies and cream is wonderful. I only wish I’d discovered it sooner!
I love easy fudge and this combination is just perfect – anything with Oreos in is going to be a winner in my book!
Mine too, Oreos are ace. There is an amazing Oreo brownies recipe I tried a few months ago which I really need to make again so I can blog it!
Quit! You’re making me crave the fudge again! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
I loved it! So glad I found it on your blog 🙂
oooh, this looks so incredible and good. i love fudge, it reminds me of the beach.
Thanks! Fudge reminds me of Christmas 🙂
Oh yum! This looks sooooo delicious!
Thank you! 🙂
love love loved tthis recipe! I made it with berry burst oreos and added red food coloring and they were a beautiful pink fudge that taste sooooo good 🙂
I’m glad you like it! Your version sounds pretty 🙂
Is the condensed milk sweetened?
Yes 🙂
I just went to the store…forgot to get the ingredients for this. It’s snowing and I always like to make something fun when I’m “stranded” inside in the winter.
Oh dear! I have two cupboards solely for baking stuff and it’s stocked with at least three tins of condensed milk, two packets of Oreos and two bars of white chocolate at all times 🙂
Can I use regular milk instead of condensed?
I haven’t tried it but I don’t think it would work with normal milk
[…] The Oreos I had to hand after making a batch of Cookies & Cream fudge over Christmas (thanks to Julia at Café Lula) and I’m pleased to report that the two work really well together, providing just enough […]
