Hello! I’m Julia. I like to cook, I like to bake and, mostly, I like to eat. For years I have been keeping notes on my computer about the recipes I have made from books or created myself, whilst also reading lots of blogs for inspiration. Finally (sometimes I’m not so smart) it clicked that I should start my own blog!
I first started learning to cook when I was 16 and my mum decided to teach me a few basic pasta recipes. Up until this point, I didn’t even really like food. I would eat tomato ketchup sandwiches, chicken burgers and anything chocolatey. Fortunately, learning to cook completely changed my mind. By my first year of uni I was confident with pasta and had also learnt to make pizza dough. By second year, I discovered that curry is actually ace and learnt to make Thai red curry. At some point after this I realised that I like pretty much all food and I want to be able to cook it all, and now I can happily cook all sorts (although there’s still plenty left to learn!). I am a partly self-taught, partly mum-taught cook and a self-taught baker. My mum and I are always discussing the meals we’ve cooked and coming up with new recipes together ^_^
I’m an impatient cook and baker, preferring to ice cupcakes from the bowl as I’m eating them rather than decorating them prettily with an icing bag, and pasta sauces often get cooked for the bare minimum of time (my impatience in the kitchen stems from being constantly hungry), so one of my goals is to put more effort into how pretty the food is as well as how yummy. I was originally going to use this blog to encourage me to finally work through all the cookbooks and cooking magazine recipes I have accumulated over the past few years, but I seem to have turned instead to creating a lot of my own recipes, so we’ll see how that goes!
The food and text is all by me and all photos are my property. If you would like to use one of my photos please contact me first. I’ll most likely say yes 🙂 You can email me at julia {at} cafelula {dot} com.

Enjoy!
Ace! Funny and foody, which are two of my favourite things. Now how do I follow this…and also make food based requests?
Hey Julia,
I love this, well done!
Yum yum, looking forward to reading your posts.
I can help you with number 6 on your to-do list. Give me a shout next time you’re in sunny Halifax and we can bake whilst the boys take photos of pigeons and sticks 😉
x
That would be brilliant, thank you! x
I like! I like! Also, your photos are ace and they make me want to eat everything. I’ve decided I might stop doing dieting after looking at this so if I become huge, please remember that the responsibility lies with you. And I will definitely NOT start running at 6am to rectify the situation. You’ll just have to live with the guilt. Hehe.

[…] Pasta. Which means its amazing. Truly, truly amazing. I found it at Cafe Lula – thank you, Julia. My tummy loves […]
Beautiful blog 🙂 I was going to start liking your posts but then I realised, there are probably only a handful I wouldn’t bookmark so, better just leave them as they are save clogging your notifications!
